2012-5-16
Former San Diego Chargers linebacker Junior Seau was found dead at his home in Southern California on Wednesday from a gunshot wound to the chest in an apparent suicide, police said. Suns will have salary cap flexibility
2012-5-16
The Phoenix Suns will have salary cap "flexibility" in the offseason but won't be out spending money just to spend it.     Lon Babby, president of basketball operations, said in a luncheon that there's "a distinct possibility" that the team might hold off with any major spending another year if the right situation doesn't come up this summer.    Babby also said that both the organization and Steve Nash are open to the possibility of the star point guard's return for a ninth straight season with Phoenix, although that will depend on a number of factors involving Nash's and the team's desires. Nash is a free agent and says he will explore what options he has around the NBA. It was not as simple as Nash said he wanted to comeback. There are other issues, such as the amount of a contract and its length.                         B...

Bucs sign contract with paralyzed player LeGrant
2012-5-15
Rutgers' Eric LeGrand was surprised when his former coach called to let him know the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were interested in signing the paralyzed defensive tackle.    On October 16, 2010, it was a painful date for LeGrand and it was on this day that he suffered a severe spinal injury during a game against the Army Black Knights in New Meadowlands Stadium. The 6'2", 275 lbs. defensive tackle attempted to tackle Malcolm Brown of the opposing team. They collided, and LeGrand lay on the ground for several minutes before being carted off, apparently only able to move his head.                             Soon he was taken to the intensive care unit of the Hackensack University Medical Center, in Hackensack, New Jersey, where doctors determined that LeGrand was paralyzed from the neck down.     ''It came ...

With him, the Lakers seem to be an unchallengeable team in the postseason.    Now we have to admit that it indeed ma...

Homer leads Cubs past Reds 3-1
2012-5-15
The power-challenged Chicago Cubs hit a pair of homers for a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.    Jeff Samardzija did not have a problem breaking a sweat and  pitched into the eighth inning on a warm, humid night that was to his liking Wednesday, keeping his fastball around 96 mph the whole way.    A warm front moved through the area on Tuesday night, setting off rounds of thunderstorms that forced postponement for the opening game of the series. When Samardzija took the mound a day later, it was 87 degrees for the first pitch.    Perfect for Samardzija (3-1), who grew up in Indiana and is used to heat and humidity.                          During the game, Bryan LaHair and Ian Stewart hit solo homers off Bronson Arroyo (1-1) for only the Cubs' third multihomer game of the season. They managed on...
